French

At the Primary level, the main goal of the French program is to instill the desire to learn and properly speak the French language.

This is accomplished by following themes that are introduced and, depending on the age of the child, progressively expanded. The themes include grace and courtesy, the weather, the days of the week, the school, the home and family, and the parts of the body.

Vocabulary is acquired gradually using manipulative materials which include picture cards and objects and by learning songs and rhymes. By the end of the third year, the children develop a solid basis for further French instruction at the Elementary level.

At the Elementary level, reading, writing, oral comprehension and oral expression are introduced. Language, as a cultural vehicle, is not only a subject at the school to be learned, but also a way to communicate and to behave. Vocabulary continues to play an important role in the program. Oral and written skills are developed through listening and reading, interactions and dialogues, various exercises, didactic games, crafts, and videos. There is emphasis placed on pronunciation and intonation.
